Robert Blakely speechThat's market share, that's servicing people, that is doing the things that a construction union is supposed to do , and we can do that everywhere on this continent. Like you, I go to lots of meetings. Like you, I know what some of the solutions are. We need the courage to do the right things. If you want dignity in the work place, if you want to have a strong union and the benefits and the money that come from that, then go out and get a strong market share. Own the people who have the skills. Because I would ask you to remember exactly who it is that we are. We're the building trades, the unions that created the American Federation of Labor. We have contractors who don't hate us, who are prepared to work with us. I saw a number of our contractor partners are here at your Convention, because unionized contractors and the unions, in the mind of the people who pay the freight, the owners, do comprise the union. We are the oldest, strongest, and proudest unions in North America, and we are the people who invented the labor movement. So if anybody can do it, we can. Thank you very much for listening so patiently, Brothers and Sisters. |
