Special Committee on Apprenticeship and Training

Committee Report

The Apprentice and Training Committee made five recommendations to improve the Boilermakers’ National Apprenticeship Program (BNAP): 1) continue, in earnest, the establishment of a tracking system to identify member skills, background, and training history; 2) immediately make plans to implement, in the United States, the Canadian Boilermakers’ recruiting, marketing, and career awareness program, and when it is completed, the Canadian Boilermakers’ apprentice on-the-job mentoring program; 3) ensure that the national, area, and local training centers adhere to all construction industry national safety and health requirements; 4) seek, at the next national tripartite conference, the commitment of signatory contractors to involve apprentices in the project management process; and 5) seek guidance from the International Executive Council to ensure BNAP reaches the most qualified apprentice candidates and that preferences given to certified welders are authenticated. The report was presented and adopted on Day 4.
