Michael Hayes has been the director of the Office of Labor-Management Standards since August of 2013. Before that, he was an associate professor on the faculty at the University of Baltimore Law School in Maryland. During that time, he was also a visiting professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California, and Albany Law School in New York State.
Hayes came to the Department of Labor with extensive expertise in labor and employment law, including collective bargaining, employee benefits, safety and health, discrimination and the National Labor Relations Act. He's an experienced attorney at the federal court level and has performed considerable legislative work, as well as being a published author and editor.
